Chris Murphy - Partner and Head of Department

Chris joined in 1983 and is Head of FPH Law’s Criminal and Motoring Law Department. A Higher Court Solicitor Advocate, practising in both the Magistrate and Crown Courts, Chris specialises in all aspects of Criminal Law. Chris is a highly regarded specialist in Motoring Law and an Approved Prosecutor for the RSPCA.

Chris is a long serving member of the Magistrates Court Users’ and the Liverpool Law Society Criminal Practice Committee and is a dedicated lawyer concerning himself with the welfare of his colleagues, as well as that of his clients.

Chris is a keen all round sportsman which enables him to maintain the necessary fitness for the high level of energy required to undertake the pressures of modern day Court and business life.

John Ballam - Consultant Solicitor

John Ballam is our Consultant in the Criminal & Motoring Law Department having joined us in 2015  as a result of the merger with Ballam Solicitors, which had previously operated for many years on Hamilton Square.

John has been in the profession for over 45 years and qualified as a Solicitor in 1978.  Since 1980, he has specialised in Criminal Law and gained his Higher Rights in 2009, enabling him to deal with cases from the Police Station, through to Magistrates and Crown Court.  He was one of the first Solicitors on the Wirral to join the voluntary Duty Solicitor scheme in 1982, which was the forerunner to the statutory scheme introduced in 1986 (P.A.C.E) dealing with cases on a 24-hour basis.

John is a regular Advocate in both Magistrates Courts and more particularly the Crown Courts, dealing with Trials, Sentencing cases and applications, including Motoring, Public Order, Fraud and Murder.

John held the position of President of the Liverpool Law Society from 2016 to 2017.

John is married with 3 children and one grandchild and apart from enjoying time with his family, he keeps himself fit by walking and swimming. He is also a keen gardener and uniquely a bee-keeper, providing a quantity of honey each year as well as hopefully enhancing the environment.

Sarah Fergusson - Solicitor

Sarah joined FPH Law Criminal and Motoring Law Department on 1st July 2015 when Ballam Solicitors merged with FPH Law. Previous to that she joined Ballam Solicitors as a Criminal Law Solicitor in April 2009.

Sarah qualified as a Solicitor in 2004. She initially worked in both Family and Criminal Law but very quickly decided to commit to Criminal Law and has practised exclusively in this area since. Sarah specialises in all aspects of Criminal Law representing our Clients in the Police Station and in the Magistrates’ Court.   Sarah is also heavily involved in the preparation of cases in the Crown Court.

Outside of work, Sarah is married with two young children and enjoys spending time with her family.

Nicola Murphy - Accredited Representative

Nicola is a long standing member of the Criminal and Motoring Law Department. An Accredited Police Station Representative attending upon clients on initial arrest and thereafter overseeing the progress of their cases throughout Magistrates and Crown Court proceedings.

She is our primary Crown Court representative and plays an important role in liaising with clients and Counsel in the disposal of their cases. She is highly regarded within the Crown Court arena and maintains close relationships with clients and Court Users to help achieve the best possible results.

When not in work, Nicola enjoys socialising, spending time with her family and friends and has a life long interest in the keeping of horses and dogs.

Michael Adamson - Accredited Representative

Michael joined FPH Law in July 2015 and is an Accredited Police Station Representative, advising and assisting clients at the point of arrest.  Michael has over 26 years’ experience of representing clients, from minor misdemeanours to serious offences. He also provides administrative support for the Criminal and Motoring Law Department, including dealing with Legal Aid applications and preparing cases for Magistrates and Crown Court hearings.

Outside work, Michael has a number of hobbies and interests and obtained a BA (Hons) degree in Religious Studies from the Open University.  As a cricket fan, Michael enjoys attending first class matches and for many years, was a playing member of Eastham and Port Sunlight Cricket Clubs.  Michael also enjoys world-wide travel, having visited many countries over the years
